Brussels Sprouts Recipe FAQs
Is it Brussel or Brussels sprouts?
It’s Brussels sprouts, not Brussel sprouts. Brussels sprouts originate in Brussels in Belgium, hence their name. In fact, it’s still ‘Brussels’ sprout, even if you're only referring to one sprout.
Can you freeze Brussels sprouts?
Yes, Brussels sprouts can be frozen. Doing so is a great way to prepare ahead of the day for Christmas dinners, meaning you’ll be less stressed when the day comes around. To do this, it’s best to blanch them first. To blanch your Brussels sprouts, add them to boiling water for 3-5 minutes, then cool in iced water. This will help preserve their colour, texture and nutritional value. After blanching, pat them dry, spread them on a baking sheet to freeze individually, and then transfer them to a freezer-safe bag or container – ready to thaw and cook when you need them.
Are Brussels sprouts good for you?
Brussels sprouts are packed with nutrients; including vitamins C and K, fibre and antioxidants. Eating Brussels sprouts as part of a balanced diet can contribute to improved overall health and well-being.
Can you air fry Brussels sprouts?
Yes, air frying is an excellent way to prepare Brussels sprouts! To do so, simply toss them with olive oil, a pinch of salt, and your favourite seasonings, then air fry at 190°C for around 12 minutes, to give them a crispy golden outer and perfectly tender inside. For best results, shake your air fryer tray halfway through for even crispiness.
