Radish Recipe FAQs
How do you prepare radishes for cooking?
To prepare radishes for cooking, wash radishes thoroughly and trim the leaves and ends off, then either slice, chop or grate them depending on your recipe’s instructions.
Can you eat radish leaves?
Yes, radish leaves are edible and nutritious. They can be used in salads, sauteed like spinach, or blended into pesto for a peppery flavour.
How long do pickled radishes last?
Pickled radishes can last up to two weeks in the fridge when stored in an air-tight container. The flavour intensifies over time, making them even tastier after a few days.
Can you freeze radishes?
Yes, you can freeze radishes. It’s a great way to prolong the shelf-life of your radishes whilst cutting down on your food waste. To freeze radishes, chop them, boil them for a couple of minutes, and then plunge them into ice water (a process known as blanching). Then, dry them well and lay them out on a baking tray, covering with cling film. Once they’ve frozen (overnight should do it), transfer them into a freezer bag and use them within six months.
Are radishes good for you?
Radishes are root vegetables, known for being full of nutrition and also low in calories, making them a great addition to a balanced diet. Not only that, but radishes contain fibre, which supports digestive health, and are rich in vitamins C and B6, as well as antioxidants that help boost the immune system.
